私が考えている写真家とは、カメラを使い、現在、目の前で起こっている事象を写し撮り、それを人々の心に訴え共感を呼ぶことだと思っています。

最近の写真は、新聞、雑誌、あるいはインターネットなどで、戦争、テロ、災害や事故など悲惨な出来事が取り上げられていることが多いように思われます。私はそれらを否定しているわけではありません。　なぜなら、現在世界で起こっている事象を人々は知りたいのではないかと思っています。　また、知らせる必要性があると思っています。

 写真というのは、真実だけを伝える、それだけではありません。　事象を写すということは、美しいものを美しいまま写し、それが人々を癒し、幸せな気持ちになれると私は信じております。

  ごく当たり前の日常や自然の中に、　“美”　というものは存在しています。その当たり前の　"美"　というものにふれた時、人は自然から恩恵を受け、生かされていると感じると私は信じております。

 その自然が今、　傷つけられ、　失われようとしております。その自然の美しさにもう一度気づいてもらい、大切に思ってもらうために、私はごく当たり前の日常や自然の中の  "美"　を撮り続けています。いや、撮らさせてもらっているにです。

 そして、この殺伐とした世の中で、一人でも多くの人々に私の作品を見てもらい、皆さんの心が癒されれば…。　というのが、私の心からの願いです。まさにそれが、私の写真家としての使命だと感じています。

 だから私は写真を撮り続けているのです。

"As a photographer, I capture images of phenomena happening before my eyes with my camera in order to appeal to viewers' hearts and to arouse their empathy.

Tragic pictures of wars, terrorist acts, natural disasters and accidents dominate newspapers, magazines, and the Internet. I am not against this. People need to know what is happening in the world and to be up on current events. But photographs need not convey only these kinds of truths. Beauty is also a form of truth, and it is the truth of beautiful phenomena that moves and encourages me. My aim in taking pictures of beauty is simply to make myself and the viewer happy.

Beauty exists in everyday life and nature. When people touch this ordinary beauty they feel they are indebted to, and kept alive by, nature. Nature, however, is being hurt and lost. I continue taking (or rather, I am allowed to take) photographs of ordinary scenes in everyday life and of beauty in nature in order to remind people of nature's beauty and to allow them to cherish it.

My wish from the bottom of my heart is to have as many people as possible look at my photographs and have their hearts healed. I feel that this is my mission as a photographer. That is why I keep taking pictures.
